Pope Benedict XVI's message for the 43rd World Communications Day

The main issue of the article stated by Monsignor Paul Tighe is about modern technologies as a tool for building relationships to promote respect to each and every individual, communicate and build friendship for a more peaceful and joyful world. Though most of the youth today are linked with the modern technology or as they say "born digital" or "digital immigrants", it is a challenge for them how to use this tool as a means to make the world a better place, instead of using modern technology for destruction and harm to others.
The digital technology today made our world a smaller place to live in. Information rapidly transfers from one place to another all around the world. This innovation can help us connect to other people, not just from our country, but from other countries as well in just a click of a button. This innovation can be used to build new relationships and exchange information and other things that can be useful and helpful to us. The modern technology allows us to interact to informations as compared to the past where they were just readers, listeners, and watchers.
However, there are downsides to the modern technologies. It cannot be avoided that these new technologies are abused since our society is vast and highly heterogeneous. Some use modern communication technology as a tool for destruction, some use modern communication technology for spreading false information that can harm the image of others, and some use modern communication technology for spreading immoral images and videos. When modern communication technology is used in this manner, it would create a negative impact to the perception of many people, thinking that modern communication technology is an evil tool in which the world can live without it.
Modern communication technology can also harm ourselves when overused. Nowadays, it is common that the youth spends too much time using modern communication technologies for gaming and chatting. Too much use of these technologies can harm our health and may even interfere with our daily obligations like studying and doing other productive things, or even going to church.
Despite of many negative things that modern communication technologies bring, they can still be heloful to us in terms of making friends with other people who are hard to keep in touch with. Even with people far from us, we can communicate with them, making us feel a little less lonely. not only to us Filipinos, we can also communicate to other people outside the country, sharing ideas and differences between cultures. And the best part of it is that our modern communication technology can help us promote peace and unity around the world.
Modern communication technology truly changed our world into a smaller and better place to live in. Our technology today confirms the saying that "no man is an island". We are all connected in an invisible string, binding us to be closer to one another, building respect and friendship as well as promoting peace and breaking the barrier of distance.

Community Mapping

Based on my experience, community mapping is the construction of guides for establishments in a certain area which can be used for both tourists and locals. Community mapping can be done in our own community which can then serve as guide for the members of our own community. This could also be useful whenever tourists visit our own community. A community map can help us save time when we want to go to a certain place but do not know where it is situated. It can be handy since it will help you point out the place where you want to go. community maps also show how many different establishments in an area. Different establishments can be represented by a color. A very colorful community map can be an interesting and nice guide for tourists and locals too.

MDG close to my heart

The Millennium Development Goal that I understand most and is close to my heart the eradication of poverty and hunger. Each individual has the right to have access to sufficient food to sustain life. However, millions of individuals do not have food to eat and there is slow improvement on answering to this problem. Food is a basic human necessity and each of us has the right to have food to sustain our lives. I believe this goal should be prioritized since it is the most important to each and every living individual.

Development can be simply described as “a change for the better”. We can apply development through answering the needs of the poor; fight to eradicate poverty and hunger. This can be achieved through unity and commitment of all the people who are able see that our world needs a change and all of us must be aware of it. Our world needs a little more love and care for other people, especially the poor, in order for us to move forward, to change, and for global development.

Communication is...

Communication for me is the process of sharing information between two or more individual that can be achieved through different methods. Communication may be done through speech, signs, symbols, writing, or through actions. Modern communication ,which is most common at present, involves electronic communication and it makes our world a smaller place to live in.
